A driver has died after the second crash in a day on one of the main roads in north Cornwall.

Tragically, the man was pronounced dead at the scene after two cars collided on the A395.

Another male driver suffered injuries believed to be life-threatening and was airlifted to Derriford.

It happened on the stretch between Hallworthy and Pipers Pool near Launceston, closing the road for several hours.

Devon and Cornwall Police are urging anyone who saw something late on Friday afternoon to come forward.

"At about 5.23pm in the afternoon of Friday 27th September 2019, a blue Mini was travelling from the direction of Hallworthy towards Launceston on the A395.

"It would appear the vehicle crossed into the path of an oncoming silver-coloured Lexus, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

"The male driver of the Mini sustained serious injuries and was recognised as deceased at the scene.

"The driver of the Lexus sustained injuries that were described as life-threatening and was conveyed by air ambulance to Derriford hospital, where he remains receiving treatment.

"His front seat passenger received minor injuries. Family members have been notified of the collision.

They added: "Officers specially trained in the investigation of serious road traffic collisions attended from across the force area.

"Police are requesting that any witnesses to this incident make contact quoting the incident number 20190927 – 0684".
