Storm waves wash away steps on beach in Cornwall

Published by Emma Carton at 8:12am 30th September 2019. (Updated at 8:55am 30th September 2019)

Huge waves, triggered by strong winds and high tides, have destroyed steps at a Cornish beach.

Crantock Surf Life Saving Club has issued a warning after the wooden steps were washed away.

It happened as flood warnings were issued for the whole of the north and south coasts at the weekend.

Those remain in force for Monday evening ahead of even higher spring tides.

"The steps have now been closed off and the lower section removed for dismantling. Please keep clear.

"Please, please stay safe in these storm swells and big spring tides!

"If you're accessing the clubhouse please note we have no stairs anymore!"
