Police appeal after a fatal crash in north Cornwall

Police have issued an urgent appeal after a fatal crash on a main road in north Cornwall.

Officers have confirmed a 45-year-old man from Launceston died on the A395.

Another driver, who is in his 70s and from Bude, remains at Derriford with serious injuries.

He was airlifted to hospital after two cars collided on the stretch between Hallworthy and Pipers Pool.

The incident happened on Friday afternoon, closing the road for seven hours.

Devon and Cornwall Police are urging anyone who saw something just before 5.30pm to come forward.

"Police are appealing for witnesses to a two-car collision on the A395 in Cornwall in which one man died and another man was seriously injured.

"Emergency services were called at 5.25pm on Friday 27th September following the collision between a blue Mini and a silver Lexus RX 300 on the A395 between Hallworthy and Pipers Pool.

"The Mini driver, a 45-year-old man from Launceston, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"The driver of the Lexus, a man in his 70s from Bude, suffered a life-threatening head injury and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital. 

"He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition. 

"A woman passenger received minor injuries.

"Specialist traffic officers from across the force attended and the road was closed for seven hours while an examination of the scene was carried out".

Police are asking for witnesses to the collision to contact them via 101@dc.police.uk or by phone on 101, quoting log number 0684 of 27/09/19.
