Witness appeal after fatal crash in north Cornwall

Police investigating a fatal crash on a main road in north Cornwall have issued an appeal for witnesses.

Officers have confirmed a 45-year-old man from Launceston died on the A395.

Another driver, an elderly man from Bude, was seriously injured when two cars collided on Friday.

The incident happened on the stretch between Hallworthy and Pipers Pool, closing the road for seven hours.

Devon and Cornwall Police are urging anyone who saw something, just before 5.30pm, to come forward.

"Police are appealing for witnesses to a two-car collision on the A395 in Cornwall in which one man died and another man was seriously injured.

"Emergency services were called at 5.25pm on Friday 27th September following the collision between a blue Mini and a silver Lexus RX 300 on the A395 between Hallworthy and Pipers Pool.

"The Mini driver, a 45-year-old man from Launceston, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"The driver of the Lexus, a man in his 70s from Bude, suffered a life-threatening head injury and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital. 

"He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition. 

"A woman passenger received minor injuries.

"Specialist traffic officers from across the force attended and the road was closed for seven hours while an examination of the scene was carried out".

Police are asking for witnesses to the collision to contact them via 101@dc.police.uk or by phone on 101, quoting log number 0684 of 27/09/19.
