Suspicious car fire may have been 'racially motivated'

Police believe as a suspicious car fire in Newquay could have been 'racially motivated'.

A vehicle was set alight while parked outside a property on Tregunnel Hill in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Extensive damage was caused and officers are treating the blaze as arson.

A 35-year-old local man has been arrested and released under investigation.

Officers are investigating, and anyone who saw anything suspicious or who has CCTV footage of the area, is being asked to get in touch.

"A silver Vauxhall Insignia was set alight while parked outside King Mark House in Tregunnel Hill sometime between 3.15am and 3.30am on Saturday [28th September].

"Extensive damage was caused to the vehicle during the incident which is being treated as arson by police.

"Officers also believe the attack on the vehicle may have been racially motivated.

"A 35-year-old man from Newquay has been arrested on suspicion of arson and has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

"Police are investigating and appealing for anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area at the time of the offence to contact them.

"As part of the investigation officers are also asking for anyone with private CCTV covering Stret Constantine, Stret Caradoc, Tregunnel Hill, Chynance Drive, Hawkins Road or Rawley Lane to get in touch."
