Man's body discovered along river in Newquay

A man's body has been found along the River Gannel in Newquay.

The discovery was made just before midday on Friday.

Police, paramedics and the coastguard were all called amid concerns for a person's welfare.

A man was found deceased at the scene and could not be saved.

Officers say the death is not believed to be suspicious at this time.

"Police were notified at around 11.45am this morning following reports of a concern of welfare of a man by the Gannel River in Newquay. 

"Emergency services attended the scene including the Coastguard. 

"The body of a man was located at the scene. 

"The death is not believed to be suspicious at this time and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

An ambulance crew was also called to the scene.

"We were called at just before 11.50am to attend an incident in the area of Gannel Road, Newquay. 

"We sent an ambulance crew and two other paramedics to attend the incident."
