Pirate FM launches campaign to help save lives across Cornwall

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 5:48am 11th October 2019. (Updated at 9:57am 11th October 2019)

Today is the day of Pirate FM's major campaign to help the charity that saves countless lives in Cornwall.

'Bring A Pound To Work Day' is supporting the Cornwall Air Ambulance and its Heli Appeal.

All the money raised will go towards the cost of a new state-of-the-art helicopter, so more lives can be saved across the Duchy.

Lives like the premature baby born with double pneumonia in the Duchy.

Just weeks after coming home, little Ollie was back at the doctors in Padstow and airlifted to hospital.

His family say Ollie, who is now 18-years-old, is alive today because of Cornwall Air Ambulance.

"He got to Treliske within 11 minutes and that definitely saved his life".

Pirate FM has launched 'Bring A Pound To Work Day' to support the Cornwall Air Ambulance Heli Appeal.

Ollie's dad, Tim Brocklebank, is urging everyone to support the charity through Pirate FM's 'Bring A Pound To Work Day'.

He tells Pirate FM his newborn son had not long been out of intensive care when he was struggling to breathe.

"Ollie was born on the 29th July 2001 and had double pneumonia and went straight into intensive care.

"He came out and was better but a few weeks later, he was struggling to breathe.

"He got to Treliske within 11 minutes and that definitely saved his life.

"Now he's a strapping young man of 18-years-old.

"We've been fortunate enough to have 18 years of fun and laughter rather than 18 years of tears, so we thank the air ambulance a lot".

Ollie is not alone - Rob Harris' daughter, Sophie, suffered a brain injury after being caught in a crash as a young driver.

What is the campaign?

Pirate FM is humbly asking you to bring a pound to work today, Friday 11th of October, to help the air ambulance Heli Appeal.

That is aiming to raise £2.5 million for a bigger and faster helicopter by April 2020 and £1 will make all the difference.

The charity says every little will help.
