'Life-changing injuries' after crash on A38

One person has suffered potentially life-changing injuries after a serious crash on Cornwall's A38.

Two cars collided near Tideford on Saturday evening, closing the road for several hours.

Police and paramedics were scrambled, along with firefighters from Saltash, Liskeard and Bodmin.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service says two casualties were trapped and had to be cut free from their vehicles.

Devon and Cornwall Police are urging anyone who saw something, just before 7pm, to come forward.

"At 1850 hours on Saturday 12th October 2019, all three emergency services attended a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A38, approximately one mile east of the village of Tideford.

"An orange coloured Fiat Punto and a silver Mercedes A class were involved in a head-on collision.

"The two occupants of both vehicles were taken by ambulance to Derriford Hospital.

"One of the occupants of the Mercedes has suffered potentially life-changing injuries.

"Officers from the Roads Policing Team attended the scene and are seeking to identify a dark coloured SUV or 4x4 vehicle at the scene of the collision.

"Police would like to hear from anyone who has witnessed the collision, or travelled on the A38 in either direction at the time of the collision who may have dashcam footage or witnessed either vehicle prior to the collision".

Devon and Cornwall Police

"One appliance from Saltash, one from Liskeard and the Rescue Tender from Bodmin Fire Station attended a two-vehicle road traffic collision.

"There were two casualties trapped, one in each of the vehicles.

"The crews used crash rescue equipment to release the casualties and hand them over to the care of ambulance crew.

"Crews were detained to make the vehicle and the scene safe".

Highways England South West confirmed the road reopened just before 1am on Sunday.

Police say any potential witnesses should contact 101, quoting log number 703 12th October 2019.
