Police close A39 in Cornwall after 'serious crash'

Police are dealing with a serious crash that has closed a stretch of the A39 in Cornwall in both directions.

Officers say a man has suffered serious injuries between Winnards Perch and Wadebridge.

They have confirmed an overturned car was found by the side of the road on Monday morning.

The stretch is expected to be shut for some time and drivers are being urged to avoid the area.

Officers have tweeted to say diversions are being put in place while investigation work is carried out.

"Emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious collision on the A39 near Wadebridge.

"Police, fire and ambulance were called around 9.05am today [14 October] after an overturned car was found by the side of the road between Winnards Perch and Wadebridge.

"One man has sustained serious injuries.

"The A39 is closed in both directions and is expected to remain shut for some time. Motorists are asked to avoid the area for the time being".

Devon and Cornwall Police

"A39 in both directions closed due to accident from B3274 (Winnards Perch roundabout, Winnards Perch) to A389 (Hals' Grave Junction, Whitecross).

"Traffic is coping well.

"Police closed the road around 10:35am".
