Warning as torrential rain sweeps Cornwall and Devon

There are reports of flash flooding as torrential rain sweeps Cornwall and Devon.

South West Storm Chasers has posted a warning for more downpours and possible lightning strikes.

Surface water flooding has already been reported in Plymouth on Friday morning.

Inrix Traffic and Travel says the A3064 Wolseley Road is now passable after to flooding around St Budeaux Bypass.

There are no official weather warnings in force, however the Met Office is predicting a wet day with gales on the coasts.

Kernow Weather Team has also issued a warning, for more downpours and strong winds.

"Day two of the visit of a slow-moving low pressure today and it'll be another day of heavy showers and sunny spells, some of these showers could have hail mixed and also a few flashes of lightning as well.

"These showers are moving in from the south-west and are torrential; these could catch you out very easily.

"Please take extra care if you're out driving.

"There are also is some very strong gusts of wind around Cornwall of around 45mph+".

What is the forecast?

Friday: "A largely unsettled day with sunny spells and heavy showers moving quickly across the south-west. Windy, with the possibility of coastal gales".

Friday night: "Many of the heavy showers will die out into the evening leaving drier conditions with some clear skies. Some scattered showers will linger in coastal areas until dawn".

Saturday: "A drier day than Friday with plenty of sunny spells, though some scattered showers still likely. Lighter winds than of late".

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday: "Some showers on Sunday then a more settled start to the new week, with plenty of sunshine.

"The odd shower likely in coastal areas as well as possible fog patches".
