Hail stones the size of pound coins have been falling in Cornwall as thunderstorms hit.

They were pictured in Newquay by Sarah-Jane who described them as the biggest she has ever seen.

There have also been reports of flash flooding as torrential rain sweeps the Duchy and Devon.

South West Storm Chasers has posted a warning for more downpours and possible lightning strikes.

Surface water flooding has already been reported in Plymouth on Friday morning.

There are no official weather warnings in force, however the Met Office is predicting a wet day with gales on the coasts.

Kernow Weather Team has also issued a warning, for more downpours and strong winds.

What is in store weather-wise?

Friday: "A largely unsettled day with sunny spells and heavy showers moving quickly across the south-west. Windy, with the possibility of coastal gales".

Friday night: "Many of the heavy showers will die out into the evening leaving drier conditions with some clear skies. Some scattered showers will linger in coastal areas until dawn".

Saturday: "A drier day than Friday with plenty of sunny spells, though some scattered showers still likely. Lighter winds than of late".

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday: "Some showers on Sunday then a more settled start to the new week, with plenty of sunshine.

"The odd shower likely in coastal areas as well as possible fog patches".
