The 'bomb alert' that cordoned off house in St Austell

Police have released more information after being called to reports of a bomb in St Austell.

Emergency services were scrambled to a house on Boscoppa Road, amid concerns for a man's welfare.

When they arrived on Saturday night, they confirmed the man was not at the property.

Officers had also received reports of a suspected unexploded bomb in the garden.

Paramedics, firefighters and a Royal Navy disposal unit were also scrambled and the scene was cordoned off.

"Officers were notified at around 7.50pm by ambulance services on Saturday, 19 October, following reports of concern of welfare of a man at an address on Boscoppa Road in St Austell. Upon attendance the man was not at the property. 

"Police also received reports from ambulance and fire services, who were at the scene, that a suspected unexploded bomb was present in the back garden of the address. 

"Police, EOD, Fire and Ambulance Services attended the scene and a cordon was put in place. 

"The cordon was lifted at around 10.40pm that evening and agencies all stood down".

Police later confirmed the man was located and was left in the care of healthcare professionals and family.
