Gig boat stuck in mud in a Cornish harbour

Seven people have had to be pulled to safety by firefighters, after their gig got stuck in the mud in Cornwall.

Crews from Padstow, St Austell and Falmouth were scrambled to the area near Padstow Harbour Office.

Coastguards rescuers also rushed to the scene, after the call came through first thing on Sunday morning.

Teams had to use specialist mud rescue equipment to help the casualties to safety, but no-one was hurt.

"Critical Control received a call from HM Coastguard making us aware of a gig rowing boat stuck in the mud.

"Fire crews from Padstow, St Austell and Falmouth Community Fire Stations have been mobilised to assist the Coastguard with this incident.

"Update at 1100: Seven persons successfully rescued from gig boat by fire service personnel and HM Coastguard".
