Brave Cornish mum opens up over breast cancer battle

Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 10:57am 8th November 2019. (Updated at 2:36pm 8th November 2019)

A Cornish mum reveals how she turned to her ex husband's new wife for support, after being diagnosed with a rare breast cancer.

Suzanne was given the devastating news a month after her 50th birthday.

She was particularly worried about the impact on her youngest daughter, who was just 13-years-old at the time.

Now she is revealing how Paula supported her through her battle, with everything from chemotherapy to shopping.

“We've always been pleasant to each other at family get-togethers, but became much closer after my diagnosis.

"During one chemo session, we had an emotional conversation, where Paula said whatever happens, she will be there to look after my girls.

"It was a conversation we needed to have to reassure me, and it felt like a turning point; after that we became even closer".

Mum, Suzanne

Mum-of-four Suzanne was devastated by her diagnosis and was particularly worried about her youngest daughter, who was 13-years-old at the time.

But in an emotional conversation between the two,  Paula promised she would look after Suzanne's children:

"How do you broach the subject with someone who's going through cancer treatment, when you're trying to say to them, come on you're going to make this, I'm here for you and I'm here for the girls".

Suzanne's Friend, Paula

Suzanne and Paul have shared their story as part of a campaign during October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The campaign by Marks and Spencer and Breast Cancer Now aims to highlight the fact everyone can support someone affected by the disease.
