Tamar Bridge closures - as storm hits Cornwall

Tamar Bridge closures - as storm hits Cornwall

Published by Emma Carton at 8:04am 2nd November 2019. (Updated at 3:23pm 2nd November 2019)

Lane closures are in force on the Tamar Bridge, as the latest storm hits Cornwall.

The A38 and bridge was fully closed to high-sided vehicles first thing on Saturday.

It was after officials recorded gusts of up to 60mph.

The Met Office has predicted winds of up to 80mph on the coasts.

However first thing on Saturday, Kernow Weather Team recorded gusts of 113mph in Illogan.

A weather warning for gales has been stood down, but the rain warning remains in force until 23.59pm on Saturday.

The full closure on the Tamar Bridge has now been lifted because the winds have eased a little.

Tamar Crossings says the centre lane remains closed for safety, as of 8am on Saturday.

Crossings on the Torpoint Ferries were suspended first thing on Saturday, because of the strong winds.

However, normal services resumed at around 10.45am on Saturday.

"The river has calmed down and the winds dropping away. Three ferries in service, no delays either side of the river".

Fallen trees have blocked roads from Penzance to Torpoint, including stretches of the A30 at Bodmin and the A38 at Landrake.

On the trains, there is a reduced service on Great Western Railway between Penzance and St Erth, because of a fallen tree.
