Urgent flood warning goes out for parts of Bodmin

The urgent flood warning for parts of Bodmin has been stood down.

Levels in Bodmin Town Leat were rising rapidly on Saturday morning, causing over-topping.

The Environment Agency had urged residents in the Flaxmoor Terrace area to take immediate action.

However officials are continuing to monitor water levels, with more heavy rain set to hit.

The Met Office weather warning for downpours will remain in force until 23.59pm on Saturday everning.

"The risk of flooding from the Bodmin Town Leat has now reduced, and river levels are falling below levels of concern.

"The trash screen that was previously blocked has now been cleared.

"However, it remains susceptible to further blockages due to the amount of fallen debris.

"Although the heaviest of the rain has passed there is a potential for further localised heavy showers this evening and overnight.

"We will be monitoring the situation".

Another 'immediate action' flood warning has been issued for the River Lynher.

A string of flood alerts are also in force for other rivers, but those issued for the north coast have been stood down.
