Cornwall's firefighters have issued a 'turn around, don't drown' warning after a van got trapped in flood waters.

The vehicle, with the driver stuck inside, had to be winched to safety at St Merryn on Saturday.

It was one of a string of flooding-related incidents, as torrential rain battered the Duchy.

Now Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service has issued a warning, with some roads remaining water-logged on Sunday.

"Major pumping appliances from Padstow and Wadebridge supported by water rescue teams from St Austell and Falmouth and 2 flexi-duty officers were mobilised to a van stuck in flood water with the owner trapped inside.

"The initial attending crews managed to rescue the owner by pulling the van free from the water using a winch".

There are no weather warnings out for Sunday, however more heavy showers are on the cards.

Several rivers around Cornwall remain on flood alert too: Read more.

Now drivers are being urged not to try to make it through on flooded roads, even if the water appears shallow.

Firefighters from Wadebridge and Padstow shared photos of the trapped van as a warning to other drivers.

Crews say as little as 60cm of still water may be enough to float a car and 30cm of flowing water could push a car sideways.

"If you come across flood water in your vehicle, DO NOT attempt to drive through it - you will get stuck!

"Crews have attended multiple flooding incidents today including this one at Trenearne Bridge, #StMerryn.

"Please use common sense - turn around and find another route".
