Aftermath of landslide on a street in Bodmin

Photos have revealed the aftermath of a landslide on a quiet residential street in Bodmin.

A wall in front of a house collapsed into the road after the day of downpours across Cornwall.

Police cordoned off the area on Castle Street on Saturday and it remains closed on Sunday.

Toni Smith lives nearby and shared these images to the Bodmin’s Voice Facebook group.

She described the damage as awful and said she felt for her neighbours, adding that she hoped the house would be OK.

The torrential rain and gales left a trail of destruction across the Duchy.

The Met Office says 40mm of rain fell in just 24 hours at Cardinham near Bodmin.

Some of the strongest winds across the UK were in Cornwall, measuring 82mph at Culdrose.

However, Kernow Weather Team says it recorded gusts of 113mph in Illogan, first thing on Saturday.

Castle Street in Bodmin remains shut on Sunday, following the landslide.

Inrix Traffic and Travel says the road is still closed in both directions.
