'Dangerous trees' shut main road through Falmouth

'Dangerous trees' shut main road through Falmouth

Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 12:53pm 4th November 2019. (Updated at 4:19pm 4th November 2019)

A stretch of the main road through Falmouth, closed because of dangerous and damaged trees, has reopened.

Several large and damaged limbs were overhanging the A39 Dracaena Avenue, after the weekend storm.

The stretch between the Ponsharden Roundabout to the traffic lights at Kimberly Park Road was shut.

Cornwall Council has since confirmed that emergency safety work has been carried out and the closure has been lifted.

"Following a report of several large damaged tree limbs overhanging the A39 Dracaena Avenue in Falmouth, it has been necessary to close the road with immediate effect for the safety of road users, and to allow the emergency removal works to take place safely.

"The road will be closed until approximately 3.30pm from the Ponsharden Roundabout to the four way junction with Kimberley Park Road and Trescobeas Road.

"Diversions are in place via the A39 to Hill Head Roundabout then Union Corner roundabout and Trescobeas Road.

"Please avoid the immediate area for at least the next three hours if at all possible as the surrounding road network will likely be significantly congested as a result".
