Firefighters rush to check if anyone was trapped inside a car found half submerged in a Cornish river.

Crews from Launceston, Callington, Bude and St Austell were scrambled to Kennelhill Woods on Monday.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service has since confirmed that no-one was found inside the vehicle.

Officials say it had been in the water since the stormy weather on Saturday.

"At 1238hrs, a request was received from police to search a car that had been found partly submerged in a river.

"It was unknown if anyone was inside the vehicle.

"Firefighters from Launceston and Callington, along with specialist water rescue teams from Bude and St Austell, attended - and three officers.

"It was established from a local resident that the vehicle had been in the water since Saturday.

"Water rescue technicians entered the river to confirm that there was no-one inside.

"The incident has been left for the owner of the vehicle to arrange recovery".
