Fire breaks out on housing estate in Camborne

Firefighters from five Cornish towns are battling a fire on a housing estate in Camborne.

Crews from Tolvaddon got the initial call, after the blaze broke out in a bungalow on Penware Parc.

They scrambled back-up from Truro, Falmouth and Penzance after finding the building 'well alight'.

At one point, the smoke was so thick it was spreading into nearby properties.

The Incident Command Unit from St Just, police and paramedics were also called, after a string of 999 calls.

One woman has been taken to hospital to be treated for breathing in smoke.

The initial call came through just after 10am on Tuesday and emergency services have cordoned off the road.

"At 10:08, the Critical Control Centre received a total of 5 emergency calls informing them of a fire at a residential dwelling at Penware Parc, Camborne.

"Initially, two appliances from Tolvaddon were mobilised, along with a whole time officer for support.

"On arrival at the scene, an appliance from Tolvaddon reported the building as ‘well alight’ and requested a further appliance be mobilised.

"Following this, an appliance from Truro was mobilised. Shortly after, further assistance was requested and an appliance from Penzance was mobilised.

"In total, there are currently four appliances, an Incident Command Vehicle from St Just, an Operational Support Vehicle from Falmouth, a support vehicle from Tolvaddon and several whole time officers in attendance at the address.

"The building is a single-storey detached domestic dwelling measuring 15 metres by 8 metres. Breathing apparatus is in use and two main jets and one covering jet are being used to extinguish the fire.

"Ambulance has attended and Police are now in attendance".

Devon and Cornwall Police say they were called when the smoke started streaming into nearby properties.

"The call came to us from the fire service at 10.35am on the 5th November to a property fire in Penware Parc, Camborne.

"We were called to assist as smoke was entering neighbouring properties.

"One woman from the property has been taken to Treliske to be treated for smoke inhalation.

"The road is currently blocked".

Devon and Cornwall Police

South Western Ambulance Service confirmed they were called just before 10.30am, but said they were not able to provide any further details due to this being a private address.
