Roads flood as heavy rain sweeps across Cornwall

There are reports of flash flooding on the roads as torrential rain lashes parts of Cornwall.

Areas around Helston and the Lizard were among the worst hit on Wednesday evening, where roads turned to rivers.

Chris Stuart's daughter filmed this footage through the village Gunwalloe, showing water streaming down the street.

He has shared the video as a warning to other drivers.

It comes as weather experts tweet a series of warnings about the latest band of downpours.

The Met Office has not issued any official weather warnings for the south-west.

However, forecasters say the wet stuff is set to stay with us through the night and well into Thursday.

Kernow Weather Team has also posted an alert, urging drivers to take extra care for the next 24hrs.

The group says they have received multiple reports of standing water on the roads.

Flood alerts have been issued for the West Cornwall Rivers and the Upper River Tamar: Read more.

The Environment Agency says levels are rising in areas where the ground is already saturated after the weekend's storm.

They remain in force on Thursday morning, with the A3078 at Trewarthenick on the Roseland blocked because of a fallen tree.
