Police confirm TWO crashes after A30 hail storm

Police have released more details about two crashes, after a freak hail storm on Cornwall's A30.

Officers have confirmed one vehicle skidded and hit a sign near Chiverton Cross roundabout.

Shortly afterwards, two others collided and a stretch of the eastbound carriagway is blocked.

Drivers described conditions as treacherous but there are no reports of any injuries.

"The A30 is two separate incidents at the same location. 

"There has been a single vehicle in collision with a road sign. 

"A separate two-vehicle collision happened shortly afterwards nearby. 

"Police were first called at 7am.

"There are no reported injuries and the vehicles are awaiting vehicle recovery.

"Lane one will be closed for the recovery truck to attend".

Devon and Cornwall Police

Inrix was reporting long tailbacks to Avers junction in Redruth but the road has since cleared.

"Traffic easing and accident cleared on the A30 eastbound before A390 (Chiverton Cross roundabout).

"Previous congestion to the A3047 at Scorrier.

"Re-open as of 10:30am.

"Several vehicles had reportedly crashed due to black ice road conditions after a heavy hail storm.

"It was affecting traffic heading inbound to Bodmin".
