The full list of Cornwall's election candidates

On December 12th polling stations will open to give people the chance to vote in the General Election.

With the election set against the backdrop of Brexit there will also be candidates talking about what they want to do for Cornwall.

Over the next few weeks they will be stomping through the streets of Cornwall aiming to encourage you to vote for them.

So who is standing for election here in Cornwall? Here are all the candidates in each constituency.

St Austell and Newquay

  • Richard Byrne – Liberal Party
  • Dick Cole – Mebyon Kernow – leader of Mebyon Kernow and Cornwall councillor for St Enoder; the only MK candidate in this General Election.
  • Steve Double – Conservative – first elected as MP in 2015 he was then re-elected in 2017.
  • Collin Harker – Green Party – Canadian-born Collin runs a guest house in Tywardreath, founding director of a Community Benefit Society.
  • Felicity Owen – Labour – former director of public health for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
  • Tim Styles – Liberal Democrat – local businessman who lives in St Austell and is St Austell town councillor for Gover and current Mayor of St Austell.

Truro and Falmouth

  • Jennifer Forbes – Labour – runs a small business at an outdoor play and learning centre. She is also a trade union education tutor for the Trades Union Congress and Uni Global Union.
  • Ruth Gripper – Liberal Democrat – works at the Knowledge Spa in Truro for the University of Exeter; former research assistant for Liberal Democrat MP and health minister Sir Norman Lamb.
  • Cherilyn Mackrory – Conservative – mum of one who has worked as a case worker for MP Steve Double and is also Cornwall councillor for St Mewan.
  • Paul Nicholson – Liberal Party
  • Tom Scott – Green – a lecturer who has been a prominent anti-Brexit campaigner. Author of a major report on social media abuse during the 2016 referendum which was presented to the Houses of Parliament and European Parliament.

North Cornwall

  • Joy Bassett – Labour – mother of three grown-up children who manages her husband’s legal practice and is also a Bodmin town councillor.
  • Danny Chambers – Lib Dem – local vet who says he wants to be the first vet to be elected since 1884.
  • Elmars Liepins – Liberal Party
  • Scott Mann – Conservative – former postman first elected in 2015 and re-elected in 2017.

South East Cornwall

  • Gareth Derrick – Labour – former Commodore in the Royal Navy who commanded Royal Naval and Royal Marines Reserves. Was also British Embassy diplomat in Tokyo until 2010.
  • Martha Green – Green – a legal practitioner specialising in asylum cases, human rights and support for victims of modern slavery and trafficking.
  • Jay Latham – Liberal Party
  • Colin Martin – Liberal Democrat – a maths teacher with the CHES home education service and Cornwall councillor for Lostwithiel.
  • Sheryll Murray – Conservative – first elected in 2010 and held the seat ever since. Backed Boris Johnson in Conservative leadership contest and is pro-Brexit.

Camborne and Redruth

  • George Eustice – Conservative – first elected as MP in 2010 and has been a minister at the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) on two separate occasions.
  • Paul Farmer – Labour – lecturer at Falmouth University who has lived and worked in the constituency for more than 35 years.
  • Paul Holmes – Liberal Party
  • Karen La Borde – Green Party – a company director who runs her own business, she is also a parish councillor and environmental campaigner.
  • Florence MacDonald – Liberal Democrat – primary school and music teacher.

St Ives

  • Alana Bates – Labour – born in Penzance and Penzance town councillor as well as a former community carer.
  • Ian Flindall – Green Party – runs a sustainable farm at Morvah with his family. Has also worked in renewables and energy conservation and was director of West Cornwall Community Power.
  • Andrew George – Liberal Democrat – former MP who served as St Ives MP from 1997 to 2015.
  • John Harris – The Common People
  • Robert Smith – Liberal Party
  • Derek Thomas – Conservative – former property developer who was first elected as MP in 2015.
