It's official - snow fell over Devon last night!

Published by Emma Carton at 8:38am 12th November 2019.

The Westcountry has seen its first flurries of snow this winter.

Photos show a light spattering in some parts of Devon on Monday night.

There have been reports of hail showers across Cornwall, as temperatures drop.

It comes after that flash hail storm last week, that caused chaos on the A30 near Chiverton Cross.

OK, OK - we know we all tend to get a bit excited at the first sign of the white stuff but it is rare in the south-west.

The Met Office says some heavy and possibly wintry showers are on the cards for parts of the south-west.

Best not to get too excited, as these will probably be nothing more than rain in the Duchy.

But with temperatures dipping to single figures on Tuesday, it is fair to say winter is officially here!

What is the forecast?

Tuesday: "Blustery showers will continue throughout the day in the west. The east, however, should see plenty of sunny spells throughout the morning but perhaps clouding over during the afternoon. Maximum temperature 9 °C".

Tuesday night: "Overnight, the showers will continue across the region, but the east may see some clear skies during the early hours, leading to a touch of frost in rural areas. Minimum temperature 0 °C".

Wednesday: "Tomorrow morning should be drier with some sunshine, until a band of heavy rain pushes in from the west during the afternoon. This rain will spread slowly eastwards. Maximum temperature 11 °C".

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday: "Heavy rain setting in on Thursday. Friday will see a mixture of bright spells and showers. Saturday should be largely dry but cloudy".
