MORE SNOW is falling in Devon

MORE SNOW is falling in Devon

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 4:52pm 13th November 2019. (Updated at 6:24pm 13th November 2019)

More snow has been falling across the Tamar as winter well and truly arrives.

There have been reports of the white stuff around Okehampton, Princetown and Dartmoor.

Photos and videos show a proper covering as flurries fall to the ground.

Tavistock Police tweeted to say there were hazardous driving conditions on the A30.

The stretch between Sourton and Okehampton was down to one lane in each direction.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area but officials have confirmed that the road has now been cleared and traffic is returning to normal.

The Met Office says it is unlikely that the Duchy will see any snow, but we could get sleet and more hail.

One Pirate FM listener has reported seeing a flurry in the Minions area though...

"We have seen some sleet and snow, particularly across higher ground such as Exmoor, there has also been hail mixed in with these showers and sometimes people do confuse hail with snow.

"November is actually quite early for snow to happen, it's one of the least snowy months that people think we get snow, in fact we're more likely to see snow in April than in November, so it's unusual for us to see it, but with the high ground around Exmoor and Dartmoor it's not uncommon for it to be colder than elsewhere.

"I think it's quite unlikely that we'll see much in the way of snow across parts of Cornwall any time soon, being that bit closer to the west and it's a bit milder, as a result temperatures are unlikely to fall low enough for us to see real snow, there may be a bit of sleet and hail to watch out for though.

"There is a potential for Bodmin moor, but with the weather coming from the west that means it takes a little bit of time for temperatures to drop low enough for any snow to form and so it's more likely for Exmoor and Dartmoor, although it can't be ruled out for Bodmin moor, especially as we head into Wednesday."

Alex Burkill, Meteorologist at the Met Office
