Family thank people who helped after Camborne building crash

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 1:57pm 14th November 2019.

The family of a man who had a heart attack behind the wheel in Camborne have thanked the people who helped save his life.

Leigh Albery was caught in a collision on Commercial Road on Wednesday when he suffered a medical episode.

His car then crashed into Tyacks Hotel and emergency services were called to the scene.

The 60-year-old was rushed to Treliske Hospital where he was put into an induced coma.

He remains unconscious and in a critical but stable condition.

Leigh's stepson Adam has told Pirate FM how they only moved down to Cornwall about three weeks ago from London.

He says it is thanks to the kind people in the Duchy that Leigh is still here.

"He had a heart attack as he was driving.

"By-standers rushed to help and carried out CPR, they saved his life.

"I want to thank everyone who stopped to help and all the well-wishers, if it wasn't for them, he would have died.

"If this had happened in London people would have walked on by, but not in Cornwall."

No one else was injured in the collision but the road remained closed for several hours.

Police, paramedics and an air ambulance were all dispatched to the scene at around 12.50pm.

Adam is now urging more people to learn CPR, he says you never know when you may need to use the life-saving skills.
