Trees down, roads flooded and power cuts as wind and rain hit

Trees are down and roads are flooded as wet and windy weather sweeps across Cornwall.

In Newquay, the road near the zoo and Trenance cottage is flooded. 

Kernow Weather Team says that the river has burst its banks and is overflowing into the road, the footpath is also flooded.

Elsewhere a tree is down between St Ives and Hayle and the road is blocked.

There have also been reports of power cuts in the TR18, TR20  and TR27 areas. Hundreds of properties are without power.

R1 3RR, TR1 3SS, TR1 3FY, TR1 3RW, TR1 3RU, TR1 3DR postcodes are also affected.

All this comes as snow falls on Dartmoor, with the first flurries of the season in the south west.

So what is the forecast?

This Evening and Tonight:

Rain will slowly clear to the north through the evening leaving most parts dry by midnight. The odd shower may persist until dawn. Feeling cold with strengthening winds. Minimum temperature 3 °C.


Friday will be dry for most but windy. Showers are likely to affect western Cornwall and Isles of Scilly. Feeling cold in the wind. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Scattered showers on Saturday will ease by evening. Patchy rain in the far south on Sunday but most places will be dry. Drier and brighter on Monday.
