A petition has been launched to keep the Cornwall-based drama Doc Martin going.

Fans were worried the show might be gone forever after a cryptic tweet from ITV.

It is after the Series 9 cliffhanger saw the lead character fail a load of assessments.

The doctor, played by Martin Clunes, then resigned before he could be struck off.

Then right at the end of the episode, wife Louisa revealed she is pregnant again!

Now fans have started a petition to save the drama, filmed in Port Isaac.

It is aiming to pull in 2,500 signatures and so far has more than 1,700.

"This last series, Season 9, of Doc Martin is rumoured to possibly be the final one.

"The show is loved and enjoyed by millions world wide and all its fans call on ITV and Buffalo Productions to continue making more episodes and seasons of the programme.

"The show is loved for its superb acting and wonderful scenery and contains stories of laughter, love, fun, drama and serious medical issues.

"In a time when current television scheduling contains violence, rudeness, profanity and sexual content, Doc Martin is a shining example of good old fashioned entertainment".
