Man's body pulled from the water in Truro

A man's body has been pulled from the water in Truro.

The discovery was made just after 11am on Monday morning near Malpas.

Police, ambulance crews, firefighters and the coastguard were all called to the area near Newham.

The man was recovered from the river but sadly he died at the scene.

Formal identification has not yet taken place but officers believe the man is in his 50s and from west Cornwall.

They are now trying to work out exactly what happened.

"Emergency services were called around 11.10am today [18 November] following reports of a possible body in the river by Newham Road, Truro. [River that runs through the industrial estate].

"Police, HM Coastguard, ambulance and fire attended.

"A person was recovered from the water a short time later. They were pronounced deceased at the scene.

"Enquiries are underway to confirm the person’s Identity and locate next of kin.

"Police are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the death."

They later added: "We can confirm the person recovered from the water in Truro this morning was a man.

"Formal identification is yet to be carried out but the man is believed to be in his 50s and from West Cornwall.

"Police are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the death."
