Torrential rain weather warning is out for Cornwall

A drive-to-work severe weather warning has been issued for Cornwall.

The Met Office has put out a yellow alert for torrential rain.

It covers an area from south of Truro to Launceston, including the A30 and A38, until mid-morning on Wednesday.

Forecasters say the rain carries the risk of flooding on the roads.

Standing water is already being reported on the A390, from Lostwithiel to Doublebois.

"Surface water on A390 in both directions between B3268 Fore Street (Lostwithiel) and A38 (Twelvewoods Roundabout, Doublebois).

"Approach with care".

What can we expect?

The Met Office yellow weather warning for torrential rain is in force until 11am on Wednesday.

Forecasters say we can expect:

  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer

Up to 30mm of rain could fall in a matter of hours, especially over higher ground like Bodmin Moor.

What is the forecast?

"An area of rain will persist over parts of Cornwall during Wednesday morning before easing by the afternoon. 

"Whilst much of Cornwall will see relatively small rainfall amounts some areas, particularly the high ground of Bodmin moor, may see 20-30 mm of rain, much of this falling in 6 hours during the busy morning travel period".
