Urgent appeal for blood donors in two Cornish towns

An urgent appeal is going out for blood donors in Truro and St Austell.

The NHS says sessions, being run next week, are running low on bookings.

Its Blood and Transplant team is urging locals to sign up, saying it can save lives.

Officials say patients at local hospitals rely on people giving blood.

"Your blood saves lives. Your blood donation is an amazing gift to people who need it in an emergency or for on-going medical treatment.

"We need nearly 5,000 people to give blood every day to meet the needs of hospitals and patients".

When are the sessions and how can I sign up?

The first appeal is for the sessions in Truro on 26th November, which are only 85% full.

It is being held at St Erme Community Centre, Trispen, Truro between 1.10pm and 3.30pm and 4.30pm and 7.30pm.

The second appeal is for the sessions in St Austell on 28th November, which are only 81% full.

It is being held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints between 1.10pm and 3.30pm and 4.30pm and 7.30pm.

Please call 0300 123 23 23 or visit www.blood.co.uk to book an appointment to donate.

All donors are asked to make appointments or to call ahead rather than walking in.
