A stretch of the A30 near Penzance has been closed through the early hours, after a car fire.

Firefighters from Penzance and Tolvaddon were called to reports of a collision between Buryas Bridge and Catchall.

They used hoses to douse the flames early on Wednesday morning, but say no-one was inside.

The road was shut because of damage to the carriageway but has since reopened.

"At 0254am Critical Control received a call to a car on fire after a collision.

"Crews from Penzance and Tolvaddon were mobilised to the incident, along with an officer.

"On arrival, the car was found to be well alight.

"Crews used breathing apparatus and two hosereels to extinguish the fire.

"Crews also confirmed that there was no-one in the vehicle.

"There was, however, damage to the road surface after the incident and the road was closed by police".
