A huge search has been launched off the coast of west Cornwall, amid fears for a woman's safety.

Police were called to reports of a person spotted on the cliffs on Wednesday night.

Pirate FM understands the St Ives lifeboat and Coastguard helicopter have also been involved.

Posting on Facebook on Wednesday night, St Ives RNLI say they were stood down after no casualty was found.

"Our crew have now returned after taking part in a coordinated search along with multiple rescue teams".

They added: "No casualty was located and after an in-depth search the crew were stood down and returned to the station".

However, Devon and Cornwall Police say searches for the woman in question will continue on Thursday.

"Police were notified at around 6pm last night, 27th November, following reports of a concern of welfare of a woman reported to be on the cliffs".

They added: "Officers carried out searches along with HM Coastguard and the police helicopter which are ongoing today".
