Appeal to help staff at Cornish pasty factory

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 4:30pm 28th November 2019.

A crowdfunding appeal has launched to help workers at a Cornish pasty factory - set to lose their jobs just days before Christmas.

Pirate FM told you how Warrens in St Just is closing, along with a number of 'loss-making' shops.

The Cornish bakery chain proposes to restructure the business.

Bosses say it is "with sadness and a heavy heart" that they are considering streamlining options which could lead to "significant" job losses.

Now the local community is trying to raise £1,000 to help those affected.

You can find the Just Giving appeal here.

"Unfortunately the loyal staff at the main Warrens factory in St Just have been informed that some of them will be made redundant the week before Christmas on the 19th December 2019.

"I have personal friends that are going to be affected by this and I want to help out in some way. I am fundraising on their behalf so we can help them out towards Christmas.

"Some staff may be able to gain employment immediately but it may be a month before they receive pay and for those claiming Universal Credit, they can expect a six week wait before receiving payment.

"This is one of those time where we MUST come together as a community and help these people out. If all we raise is enough to buy their turkey I'll be happy. One less thing for them to worry about.

"This is for St Just factory staff only and all money raised will go to the staff that leave on the 19th December. Please make contact with me if you are one of those people.

"Spread the word and share, share, share!!!!"
