Rescuers searching for a woman spotted on the cliffs in west Cornwall have found a body.

Police were first called to concerns for a person's welfare on Wednesday night.

Both St Ives lifeboats, two Coastguard rescue teams and a helicopter were also scrambled.

Crews confirmed the tragic news on Thursday evening, posting 'condolences' to the family.

"On Wednesday 27-11-2019 at 18:40, we were tasked by Falmouth Coastguard to support Portreath Coastguard Rescue Team in a search for a missing person.

"A total of 20 Coastguard rescue officers searched from Godrevy car park to Basset's Cove until they were stood down at midnight.

"Also supporting them were Coastguard Helicopter R925, St Ives lifeboat and the police.

"Today, 28-11-2019 at 10:00, we were re-tasked along with Portreath CG Team, CG Helicopter R925 and St Ives lifeboat, to search from Hell's Mouth along the coast up to Portreath.

"Sadly a body was recovered and our condolences are with family and friends".
