Police have revealed tragic details after the discovery of a body in west Cornwall.

The woman and two dogs were found dead following a major air and sea search along the coast.

On Wednesday, officers received concerns for the welfare of a lady reported to be on the cliffs.

A search operation was launched, involving the St Ives lifeboats, two Coastguard rescue teams and a helicopter.

The casualty, who is believed to be a 46-year-old from the Hayle area, was discovered on Thursday and her family has been informed.

"Police were called at around 6pm on Wednesday 27th November with reports of concern for the welfare of a woman, who had been reported missing.

"Officers carried out searches along with HM Coastguard and the police helicopter. 

"The body of a woman was located by the emergency services at around noon on Thursday 28 November. 

"The bodies of two deceased dogs were also located in the area. 

"Formal identification of the woman is yet to take place, but she is believed to be a 46-year-old from Hayle. 

"Her next-of-kin have been informed. 

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner".
