Cornwall ex-postie jailed over sex assaults on girls

Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 12:57pm 29th November 2019. (Updated at 3:10pm 29th November 2019)

A former postman from Penryn is starting a lengthy prison sentence for historic sex offences against teenage girls.

A court heard how Michael Williams groomed his two victims, even plying one of them with alcohol.

The 38-year-old has admitted seven counts of indecent assault and four of making indecent images.

He was jailed for similar offences in 2010 but police found images on his computer when he was out on licence.

The latest charges pre-date the original ones - and were brought about when the victims came forward in 2016.

Williams has been sentenced to 12 years behind bars and a further six years on licence, given a sexual harm prevention order for 20 years and ordered to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely.

Michael Williams

"Williams is a prolific offender whose abhorrent actions will have had a devastating impact on his victims.

"This vile predator groomed and manipulated vulnerable children, leaving them to come to terms with the horrendous experiences he made them endure.

"They showed incredible bravery in speaking out, and it is crucial they now receive the appropriate support to overcome their trauma and help them move forward".
