Cats die from antifreeze poisoning on Dartmoor

Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 10:31am 2nd December 2019. (Updated at 10:34am 2nd December 2019)

There are reports of cats having died from antifreeze poisoning in a village over the Cornwall border.

Tavistock Police believe that several deaths around Princetown on Dartmoor were most likely an accident.

However officers are urging drivers to store  the chemical safely, saying it can cause a cruel and painful death for the animal involved.

"Please be aware that a number of cats in your community have unfortunately died recently due to poisoning with antifreeze.

"This has been confirmed as the cause of death by local vets.

"This is a cruel and painful death for the animal.

"Please be aware of this and make sure any antifreeze you use is disposed of safely and not left outside in open containers.

"It is very likely that these deaths are accidental but this is completely avoidable.

"Anyone who has any concerns or information that may help the police please call us on 101 or email us on the 101 email link on the Devon and Cornwall police website".
