Person 'hit by train' at Dawlish has died

A person has died after reportedly being 'hit by a train' at Dawlish.

British Transport Police were called to the scene just before 12.15pm on Monday lunchtime.

Officers and paramedics also attended, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Sadly a person died at the scene, their death is not being treated as suspicious.

"British Transport Police were called at 12.13pm on 02/12 to Dawlish station following a report of a casualty on the tracks.

"Officers and paramedics attended, however, sadly a person has died at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious."

Services are currently suspended between Exeter and Newton Abbot.

It means anyone travelling in and out of Cornwall by train is affected.

Disruption is expected until at least 2.15pm on Monday afternoon.

Service suspended on Great Western Railway between Exeter St Davids and Newton Abbot due to person hit by a train at Dawlish. 

"Tickets being accepted on local bus routes.

"Mutual ticket acceptance is in place between CrossCountry and Great Western Railway."

"The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Exeter St Davids and Newton Abbot.

"Consequently, trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised between these stations."
