Police have posted a warning after a 92-year-old woman from Cornwall was targeted by scammers.

Officers say the victim, from the Padstow area, was contacted by a caller pretending to be from Scotland Yard.

She was asked to withdraw £9,000 from her account without telling anyone.

Worse still, the lady was told to tell the bank she was using the money to buy Christmas presents for her grandchildren.

Devon and Cornwall Police have issued a Neighbourhood Alert, urging anyone receiving calls to report them to Action Fraud.

"Police would like to make you aware of the following scam which has occurred in the Padstow area.

"She was to tell the bank she was withdrawing the money to buy her grandchildren Christmas presents.

"The caller stated they would pay for a taxi to take her to the bank and return her to her home.
