Man dies after late night crash in Wadebridge

Police have confirmed the tragic news that a man has died after a crash in Wadebridge.

They said the 58-year-old casualty from Padstow area appeared to have passed out at the wheel.

Officers have now confirmed his car hit a lamppost on West Hill, late on Wednesday night.

It happened at around 10.15pm and Devon and Cornwall Police are urging anyone who saw something to come forward.

"A man has died following a collision on West Hill in Wadebridge last night (Wednesday 4th December).

"At around 10.15pm, a grey BMW car left the road and hit a lamppost.

"The driver, a 58-year-old man from Padstow, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision.

"No other vehicle was involved.

"South Western Ambulance Service Trust resources attended the scene along with local police officers, specialist officers from the Roads Policing Team and the Alliance Armed Response Team.

"The road was closed for around three hours whilst officers commenced a full forensic examination.

"Police are requesting that any witnesses with any information and or dash camera footage to please come forward, unless they have already been in contact with officers at the scene.
