Cornwall on 'weather watch' as rain and wind looms

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 3:54pm 5th December 2019. (Updated at 5:25pm 5th December 2019)

Forecasters in Cornwall have issued a 'weather watch' as heavy rain and strong winds sweeps towards the Duchy.

The Kernow Weather Team says the system will hit on Sunday evening and blow into Monday morning too

They are predicting gusts of 50 to 70mph but the temperature will stay mild.

It looks like those cold and sunny mornings could be going again.

What is in store?

"Atlantic lows revving up with wet and windy weather taking hold again.

"The high pressure on the continent and over France, is slipping away to the south, allowing a very mobile, brisk, Westerly/Southwest flow to bring the low weather systems back off the Atlantic, once again.

"KWT are issuing a weather watch for Sunday and Monday for strong wind and heavy rain.

"Once again, a low weather system will move in from the Atlantic bringing a spell of strong winds and heavy rain during Sunday evening into Monday.

"Current weather charts are showing gust's of 50-70mph on Sunday evening into Monday morning. The temperatures will start to feel mild again throughout the day time, with highs of 10c to 14c over the weekend."
