Warning after party guests' bid to save stricken boat

Coastguards have issued a warning after party guests made a bid to save a stricken boat in Falmouth.

Crews were called to reports a vessel had ran aground near the Greenbank Hotel on Saturday night.

When they arrived, they found two people had jumped aboard to try to stop it from sinking.

Teams say the party-goers refused to get off, putting their own safety at risk.

"Team tasked to a report of a vessel aground, Greenbank. Falmouth.

"On scene it was found that two persons from a party at the hotel had boarded the vessel in an attempt to save it.

"Team members stood by providing water safety cover as the persons were refusing to get off the vessel.

"Salvage was arranged via the owners and the vessel was towed free.

"If you spot a vessel in danger with no risk to life, please don't make a risk to life by going on board. Call the Coastguard and we'll attend.

"Remember, it's not just your life you put at risk, it's the lives of the rescuers that have to enter to water should something have gone wrong".
