All music cancelled at Padstow Christmas Festival

All music cancelled at Padstow Christmas Festival

It has been announced that a Christmas festival in a Cornish harbour town will no longer feature any music.

Padstow Christmas Festival says they were told to remove the stage from outside the bakery following complaints.

Event organisers posted the following statement on social media, offering their “sincere apologies”.

"Sadly due to complaints from some local residents Streetworks have instructed us to remove the music stage from outside the Chough Bakery.

"Unfortunately all music is now cancelled for the rest of the festival, our sincere apologies to everyone”,

The announcement, which was posted on Facebook and Twitter, has sparked a string of comments and interactions from hundreds of people.

One person wrote: "Absolutely gutted I love the live music as we walk around! Been coming to Padstow for years all times of the year. As it’s been said before it’s one weekend year”.

And somebody else posted: "It must be a huge amount of work for the festival team to organise the music, as well as everything else. So, thank you for your efforts, despite this outcome”.

However locals have contacted Pirate FM to say they were told by the council that the order to remove the stage was down to an ‘unlicensed obstruction on the highway’.

The annual event, running from the 5th to the 8th December, includes everything from cooking demonstrations to a Santa fun run.

This year's line-up includes Nieves Barragán Mohacho, Phil Vickery, Jack Stein, Brian Turner, Angela Hartnett, Tom Parker Bowles, Matthew Fort, Reza Mahammad, and Channel 4’s Million Pound Menu judge, Atul Kochhar.

Organisers say they are 'so grateful to everyone for their unwavering support and generosity', particularly Rick Stein, Paul Ainsworth, and Nathan Outlaw who have championed the event since the outset 12 years ago.
