Multi-vehicle crashes on the main road to Newquay

One person has been taken to hospital after multi-vehicle crashes on a main road to Newquay.

Three vehicles were involved in one collision, where a van had ended up on its side in a hedge.

Police and paramedics were scrambled to the A3075 at Penhallow, which was closed.

Officers have confirmed two people were injured, but not seriously.

The incident and a separate two-vehicle collision were reported just after 7.30am.

It comes as torrential downpours hit parts of Cornwall, sparking a three-day weather warning: Read More.

Police warned drivers that traffic was gridlocked and diversions were in place.

"It looks like this is two separate RTCs on the A3075 at Penhallow.

"They were reported to us at 7.35am today.

"One is a three-vehicle RTC. One of the vehicles - a van - has ended on its side in a hedge.

"Two people have minor injuries. 

"The ambulance is on scene and one person has been taken to Treliske.

"One driver has been reported for driving without due care and attention".

They added: "It appears there has then been a two-vehicle RTC on the opposite side of the road.

"Traffic is gridlocked as a result. Motorists are being diverted at Perranporth junction".

However, Inrix Traffic and Travel has confirmed that both incidents have since cleared.

"Traffic returned to normal. Accident cleared on A3075 Newquay Road northbound from B3284 (Penhallow) to B3285 (Goonhavern).

"The road reopened at around 08:50. 

"Affecting traffic from Three Burrows to Goonhaven. 

"There is still some slow traffic along the A30 where the diversion route was".
