The Tories have secured a thumping victory in the general election - while Cornwall has remained blue.

Cornwall and the UK has been voting in the first December ballot in over 90 years.

The last time the nation went to the polls at this time of year was 1923.

The exit poll predicted a big majority for Boris Johnson.

By 6am, the Conservatives had already secured a majority in the House of Commons after winning their 326th seat.

Since then, they have notched up a majority of 86 after ripping seats away from Labour in its heartlands.

What else do we know about the 2019 election?

The last six weeks of campaigning have been dominated by issues like Brexit, the NHS, spending plans, climate change... the list goes on.

650 seats in the House of Commons are up for grabs, including the six constituencies in Cornwall.

Truro and Falmouth was the first to declare, with a win for Conservative Cherilyn Mackrory.

Camborne and Redruth has also remained blue, with the Tories' George Eustice holding his seat.

St Austell and Newquay, North Cornwall and South East Cornwall were also Tory victories.

St Ives was the final constituency to declare, with Tory Derek Thomas increasing his majority by thousands.
