North Coast on Flood Alert - Again

Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 11:26am 13th December 2019.

The whole of the North Cornwall coast is back on flood alert.

The Environment Agency has put out the warning as yet another storm bears down on the Duchy.

Officials say the combination of high tide and gale force winds could cause problems on Saturday morning.

A spokesperson said: "Gale Force 8 westerly winds, and offshore wave heights of over 5 metres, are forecast to cause wave overtopping of sea defences and sea spray at exposed coastal locations.

"Expect tides to be around 420mm higher than predicted due to weather conditions."

They urged people living near the north coast to be prepared.

The Met Office said they expected Cornwall's wild weather to continue overnight on Friday and into the weekend: "A band of showery rain will spread eastwards through the morning.

"Turning drier and brighter as it clears, before more rain arrives by evening.

"Staying windy with local gales."
