The Met Office has issued another weather warning for Cornwall, for gales of up to 70mph.

The yellow alert for strong winds will be in force across the drive home on Wednesday.

Forecasters say the gusts could whip up huge waves, spark travel disruption and possible power cuts.

It follows hard on the heels of Storm Atiyah, which triggered numours travel warnings and flood alerts.

What can we expect?

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for strong winds, to bring:

  • Some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities are likely to be affected by spray and/or large waves, especially for south and southeast facing coastlines.
  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible

The warning will be in force from 2pm on Wednesday afternoon until 3am on Thursday morning.

What is the forecast?

"Strong south-easterly winds are expected to develop during Wednesday afternoon across parts of south-west England and west Wales before spreading to Northern Ireland and parts of south-west Scotland later.

"Winds will tend to ease from the south during Wednesday evening.

"Most areas will also see a spell of heavy rain.

"The strongest winds will be for exposed coastal areas and over high ground with a few places seeing gusts reaching 60-70mph.

"Most inland sites are likely to see wind gusts peak between 45 and 55mph".
