A 999 call has been made after a candle sparked a bathroom fire in Bodmin.

The small blaze broke out in a house on Monday morning.

Firefighters from the town and Wadebridge were called to the scene.

They found that the fire had already been put out by the occupant and they carried out safety checks.

People are being urged never to leave candles unattended.

"At 11.22am critical control received a 999 call reporting a fire in the bathroom of a property.

"Two appliances from Bodmin Community Fire Station and one appliance from Wadebridge Community Fire Station were immediately mobilised, along with two wholetime officers.

"On arrival crews found that a small candle had caused a slight fire which was out on arrival having been extinguished by the occupant.

"Further oncoming resources were subsequently stood down by the initial incident commander.

"Prior to leaving the crew carried out a home fire safety check at the premises."
